I own a normal laptop, one of those 15 inch ones, and I asked a friend to lend me his mini laptop computer so that I could compare the two devices and talk to you about them. My laptop, as mentioned above, is a normal format 15 inch Intel Centrino Laptop with a Pentium M 1,73GHz processor, 1GB of DDR2 Memory, a 60GB hard drive and an integrates 128MB video card. It is probably one of the least powerful laptops of these days, but for my working purposes it is quite enough. It can run decent quality videos and with the help of the PCMCIA port, I managed to give it a surround sound card of the best quality that you can fit into this laptop, so basically it has everything I need. As far as the price is concerned, adding the cost of the professional sound card, the laptop cost around 300 dollars a couple of weeks ago, so it is quite cheap.

The mini laptop computer that I had for testing had a similar configuration and even after some benchmarks the results were pretty close. The total price of the mini laptop computer was around 400 dollars, but considering that it was new and my laptop was purchased as a second hand product, you can consider that the prices were the same as well. The only thing separating these two devices was the size. I can clearly tell you that the mini laptop computer was half the size of my laptop, and that is pretty small. Any smaller and you could maybe call it highly advanced smart phone prototype.

I am pretty sure that if I had 100 or so more dollars, I would have purchased the mini laptop computer because it was new, it has all the features that I needed and it uses so little energy that it can run around 8 hours on the battery alone. Comparing that with my normal laptop, the mini laptop’s battery last more than 4 times as much as my laptop’s. That is quite an achievement and I think that it would make for a great mobile device. In the future, the mini laptop computer will be even cheaper and you will get even more battery time from it. Even now, I think that it is the perfect device for people that are constantly on the road and need quick access to their private data an files.

Fist of all, you need to know what type of mini laptop you want. There are mini laptops that provide with basic usage only, such as those that use flash drives instead of physical drives to store information. Those should only be seen as additional devices to your normal laptop when you get a job that requires you to be on the move constantly. Those mini laptop models are there to help you organize your meetings easier and to help you connect and surf the internet without using a mobile phone, which is a bit limited and not very fast, as you probably know.

If you decided that you want a full fledged mini laptop, the best mini laptop that you can find is probably the cheapest one as well. Look for version of these devices that come with hard drives rather than the above mentioned flash drives as storage and I would recommend going with the Intel Atom processor simply because it is the fastest processor that you can find in this type of device. You can even find a dual core version that is capable of running full HD videos in the main screen or on an external one connected to the video out port. In any case, it would be difficult for me to suggest the best mini laptop because I found it very difficult to choose between them myself when a friend asked for my advice. You have to think about it and decide which one is best for you.

So, in the end you have to decide what the best mini laptop is and what you should be looking for. Maybe a very powerful mini laptop and you don’t care about the price, or you just need a laptop to surf the internet and you can consider getting the cheapest one you can find. In general, I would say that in 10 or 15 years we will all use these mini laptop computers because they will be very cheap, extremely powerful and small enough to fit in your front jacket pocket. We won’t need any other kind of electronic device for communication purposes.

So, if we were to recommend a very reliable and powerful mini laptop, it would have to be the Asus EEE PC. Do keep in mind that the version we tested uses a large flash drive for storage purposes, so it is faster than any kind of hard drive. This is also the reason the Asus was more expensive than the other laptops in our mini laptops comparison test.

Personally, I have to say that I also love the exterior design of the Asus because I always loved simple things. It is also one of the smallest mini notebooks you will ever see and it is one of the most powerful in that price range. There is no doubt about, Asus have made it big with the EEE PC. I would by one time and time again if it kept breaking, but it didn’t, so I just needed to purchase one up until this moment.
