Mini Laptop vs Regular Notebook
When it comes to portable computers, you have your choice of either a laptop or a mini laptop (sometimes called netbook). Laptops have grown in popularity tremendously and are pretty popular among most people. Since we live in a world where everything has to be smaller in size, the mini laptop took shape and is now a billion dollar industry. The mini laptop is essentially exactly what its name suggests, which is a smaller version of a traditional laptop. If you are in the market for a new, portable computer, how do you know whether to choose a regular sized laptop or a mini laptop?
Let us start with looking at the outside of the two different computers. A regular sized laptop screen can be as small as twelve inches and as large as eighteen inches in size, while a mini laptop screen can be as small as seven inches and as large as twelve inches. So there is obviously a size difference between the two different laptops; the mini laptop is always going to be smaller. The next obvious difference in the two different laptops is the keyboard. The regular sized laptop will boast a normal size keyboard, but the mini laptop is most likely going to have a keyboard that is slightly smaller than normal.
Now that we have looked at the outsides of the two different laptops, we can begin to look at the insides. One of the things people notice the most about a mini laptop, is that they almost always do not have a CD-ROM/DVD drive in them, while a regular laptop almost always does have one. The batteries in mini laptops are also significantly smaller than that of a regular laptop, but they have a longer life and run more efficiently because they do have to power as much. Most mini laptops also do not have as much memory, less ram, lower quality graphics and a smaller processor than a regular laptop.
You can now see the differences between regular laptops and mini laptops from an outside perspective and an inside perspective. While it seems as though a mini laptop would not be as good as a regular laptop due to everything being smaller and not as powerful, you have to keep in mind that mini laptops are built more for portability and less for performance. Although there are some pretty powerful mini laptops out there, none of them could probably match the performance of a regular laptop.
If you are looking to invest in either a regular laptop or a mini laptop, then you are going to have to decide what you need more; portability or performance. If you are an avid gamer looking for high quality graphics and fast performance, than a mini laptop is probably not the answer. If you are looking for just something to take with you to school to do work on, then a mini laptop would be the best and most logical answer. There is a huge price difference between regular laptops and mini laptops as well; with mini laptops sometimes being as low as $200.00 and hardly ever over $500.00.
